According to Remix News, the Eritrean migrant now accused of dismembering his partner — the mother of his young daughter — had once been celebrated by German media as a showcase of successful integration. A decade ago, several newspapers portrayed him as proof that Germany’s integration efforts could succeed.

Today, 41-year-old Asmerom G. stands accused of killing and dismembering his wife. Authorities have yet to recover her head.As recently as 2016, German outlets were praising him. After arriving from Eritrea — where he said he fled political persecution three years earlier — he secured work as an electrical assistant at a company in Rheinbach, North Rhine-Westphalia. In interviews, he spoke of his desire to obtain German citizenship. His employer described him to Bild newspaper as skilled, dependable, and highly capable. However, his circumstances soon changed. Within a year, he faced legal trouble following a fight that resulted in a conviction for grievous bodily harm at the Siegburg District Court. He received a six-month suspended sentence. After leaving Rheinbach, he began working as a truck driver. At some point, he traveled back to Eritrea for reasons that remain unclear. He later returned to Germany accompanied by Weghata A., 31, whom he considered his wife under Eritrean law. On July 26, 2025, she gave birth to their daughter. Just three months later, she was dead. The case drew nationwide attention. On November 17, a motorist traveling along Autobahn 45 near Olpe reported seeing suspicious objects by the roadside. Police discovered two severed female hands. Fingerprint analysis identified them as belonging to Weghata A., who had already been reported missing from her asylum housing in Bonn, where she lived alone with her infant. In the following days, investigators located her torso, though her head remains missing. The couple’s baby had been found the day before, alive and unharmed, left in a stroller near the Kröffelbach monastery in Waldsolms, Hesse. A monk discovered the child along with two handwritten notes listing only her name and date of birth.By the time authorities named Asmerom G. as the primary suspect, he had flown to Ethiopia. He was arrested there in late November and extradited to Germany in early February. He is currently being held in pre-trial detention.Read more here...
